It seems almost natural; the older we get, the more health problems we have.

One of the peskier problems though happens in the bedroom: sexual and erectile dysfunction.

While many have turned to the little blue pill, author Ruben Guzman said that doesn’t have to be the case. Guzman says ditch meat and dairy and go vegan.

If it sounds crazy, Guzman said there is science behind the madness.

“All animal products have cholesterol. All animal products cause an acidification of the blood stream,” Guzman told FOX40.

He added that acid can lead to the formation of plaque and blood clots; restricting blood flow, which is very important for sexual performance.

“It’s like pouring battery acid in your mouth,” said Guzman.

The good news according to Guzman is going vegan reverses those side effects.

“That’s the beautiful thing about the human body, because we’re designed to heal ourselves if we give it the right environment,” said Guzman.

He added there are other benefits, like less wrinkles, more vitality and more energy.

“I’m actually 54 years old and I play basketball with the 20 and 30 year olds,” said Guzman

If cutting out meat and dairy cold-turkey isn’t realistic, Guzman said make the change gradual.

“Slowly start eating more fruits and vegetables and less meat,” said Guzman.

Guzman’s been vegan for 17 years, and said it was a transition.

As for his sex life?  “Well, when it’s there it’s great,” he laughed.
